CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will host Wesleyan College on Thursday, Dec. 12, at The HTC Center with a scheduled tip-off of 7 p.m.
The Chanticleers enter the contest with a 7-1 record, equaling the best start in program history while the Wolves enter with 0-10 record.
ABOUT COASTAL
With a win over Wesleyan, Coastal will be off to the best start in the program's history at 8-1 besting the previous mark of 7-1, which was done twice, once by former head coach
Alan LeForce in 2007-08 and last season's squad coached by
Jaida Williams.
The Chants enter the contest averaging 71.5 points per game while the defense is allowing just 58.0 points per game.
Senior guard
DJ Williams leads CCU in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game while reserves
Aja Blount and
Zacharyia Esmon are chipping in 13.9 and 10.6 points per game apiece. The Chanticleer offense is shooting 42 percent from the floor, including a 33.6 percentage from behind the three-point arc.
Defensively, Coastal is forcing 19.4 turnovers per game and picking up 9.8 steals per game.
COASTAL LAST TIME OUT
The Chanticleers traveled up the coast to the Port City and left with a 62-43 win over the UNCW Seahawks on Sunday. It was just the second victory for CCU at UNCW with the last coming in the first meeting on Jan. 28, 1974.
CCU's Williams recorded her 10th career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead three Chants in double figures in the road win. Senior's
Naheria Hamilton and
Torrie Cash added in 13 points and 10 points, respectively. Hamilton recorded back-to-back double-doubles by pulling down 12 boards for her 22nd career double-double.
SCOUTING WESLEYAN
The Wolves enter the contest riding a 35-game losing skid under second-year head coach Kyle Herring. Wesleyan is allowing 81.0 points per game while averaging only 44.7 points per contest.
Nala Lawrence leads the Wolves offense with an average of 9.3 points per game with Jamila Ra-Hashim scoring 8.5 points per game.
WESLEYAN LAST TIME OUT
The Wolves fell 78-58 to Brevard College in USA South Athletic Conference action to drop to 0-10 on the year.
Ra-Hashim led three Wesleyan players in double-digit scoring with 15 points while Lawrence and BreAsia Davis added 12 points apiece.
Defensively, Kelsey Houpt raked in 11 rebounds while blocking two Tornado shots.
