CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will face the Elon Phoenix on Thursday, Dec. 19, in the Philanthropist.com Carolinas Challenge held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The Chants and Phoenix will tip-off approximately 5:30 p.m. ET.
Tickets for the Carolinas Challenge are $10 per day and can be purchased at the entrance of the Convention Center.
Elon holds an 11-7 advantage in the series despite Coastal having a 5-3 record on contests played on the Chanticleers homecourt.
ABOUT COASTAL
CCU enters the Carolinas Challenge with an 8-1 record and is off to the best start in the program's history, surpassing the previous mark of 7-1 set by former head coach
Alan LeForce in 2007-08 and last season's squad coached by
Jaida Williams.
The Chanticleers enter the contest averaging 78.2 points per game while allowing just 55.1 per contest.
Senior guard
DJ Williams and sophomore forward
Aja Blount lead Coastal in scoring. Both are averaging 13.4 points per outing while reserve guard
Zacharyia Esmon is chipping in 11.0 points per contest. The Chants' offense is shooting 45 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent deep from three-point range.
Defensively, CCU is forcing 21.3 turnovers per game while recording 11.2 steals per contest.
COASTAL LAST TIME OUT
Coastal recorded its largest margin of victory in program history with the 100-point margin in the 132-32 win over Wesleyan College on Thursday, Dec. 12.

CCU freshmen reserves
Bailey Lewis and
Alana Denson combined to score 35 points to lead seven players in double figures. Lewis tallied personal bests of 18 points and nine rebounds while Denson recorded career-highs with 17 points and six assists.
Tiarra Davis recorded a career-high with a game-high 19 points to lead the Chants.
SCOUTING ELON
Elon enters the contest with a 4-5 record on the season after gaining a 20-point victory over the Newberry Wolves in the opening game of the Carolinas Challenge.
On the season, the Phoenix are allowing 57.3 points per contest while scoring 57.6 points per outing. Elon has two players averaging in double figures with Brie Perpignan scoring 10.1 points per game while Ariel Colón is averaging 10.0 points per outing and Jaylin Powell is chipping in with 8.8 points per contest.
ELON LAST TIME OUT
The Phoenix defeated Newberry College 73-53, in their opening game of the Carolinas Challenge on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, in Myrtle Beach, S.C..
The duo of Perpignan and Colón paced the offensive attack combining for 27 points with Colón having a team-high 14 points while both Perpignan tallied 13 points. Elon University women's basketball outscored Newberry College 23-6 in the final 10 minutes of competition to defeat the Wolves.
