DURHAM, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team put up a good showing at #50 Duke Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell 5-2 to the nationally ranked Blue Devils.
Coastal falls to 4-3 with the loss, while Duke evens its season record at 5-5.
Daiki Tanabe and
Zak Talic provided the Chants' points in singles. Tanabe defeated Jason Lapidus in straight sets at No. 6 to improve to 6-0 in singles this season. Talic was awarded the No. 2 singles point after Catalin Mateas retired in the second set.
Duke won the remaining four singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles, Duke took the first and third courts by 6-1 and 6-2 margins, respectively. The No. 2 doubles match went unfinished once the point was clinched.
Saturday's match was Coastal's last in the month of February. The Chants now return to Conway for a three-match home stand, beginning with UNCW on March 1 at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
