Coastal Suffers Close Loss to Charlotte

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team was narrowly defeated by Charlotte Wednesday afternoon as the Chanticleers suffered a 4-3 loss at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
Coastal (1-4) fell behind early after losing the doubles point, and was unable to catch up as it evenly split the six singles points with Charlotte (6-3).
The 49er's swept the doubles round, taking the third court 6-1 before winning the second and first by identical 6-4 scores.
Charlotte pushed its lead to 3-0 as Emma Scott (No. 5) and Rocio Safont (No. 2) claimed the first two singles points.
Coastal attempted to pull even, with Alexa Tiefel winning in straight sets at No. 6 and Viktorija Demcenkova taking No. 1 in three sets to make the score 3-2.
Charlotte's Pierina Imparato shut the door on the match, however, giving the 49er's the winning point at No. 5.
Jennifer Brown gave the Chants their final point at No. 3 once the match had been won.
Coastal is off this weekend, and is next in action at Wofford on March 5. That match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
