CONWAY ā The Coastal Carolina softball played two games at St. John Stadium on Friday during the opening day of the Kickin' Chicken Classic and were able to pick up their first win of the season against the Rider Broncs in the late game and earlier in the day, fallingĀ to the No. 8 Tennessee Volunteers.

It took only five innings in the second game of the day for the Chanticleers as they rolled past the Rider, 11-1.

Stavi Augur reached in the first inning for CCU and
Taylor Sweigart knocked home the two sophomore outfielders to go up early on the Broncs. Later on in the inning, the sophomore second baseman came around to make it 3-0 on a fielding error by third Rider baseman Sam Ward.
Kassidy Smith the rest of the way played a big role in the Chant scoring as the junior first baseman knocked in three runs in the third with a bases-clearing double and in the team's final at-bat, the Collinsville, Illinois native put the game away with a towering three-run home run over the left field fence.
Smith knocked in six, going 2-for-3.
Ashley Guillette picked up her first win of the season as the senior went five, striking out five and allowing a run.

In game one, the young Chanticleers squad were able to hang with the highly ranked Volunteers but ultimately falling to UT, 3-1.
Chelsea Seggern led off the top of the fourth with a double to left, followed up by an Amanda Ayala walk.Ā With two on, Ally Shipman doubled giving the Volunteers the early 2-0 lead.

Kaitlin Beasley-Polko hit Ashley Morgan in the fifth and pinch runner Lexi Batts eventually came around to score on a single by Jenna Holcumb.
Sam Sack got a run back in bottom half of the fifth with her seventh career homer and first of the season to close the lead to two runs, 3-1.
Down to their last at-bat,
Abbey Montoya led off the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff walk. UT Coach Karen Weekly came out and replaced her jiunior starter Caylan Arnold with Maddy Moss. Moss last season had five saves for the Vols and came through again by getting
Kassidy Smith to fly out on the warning track in center field.
In game one,Ā Sack led the Chanticleers offensively with a single and home run.
Sophomore, Beasley-Polko took the lossĀ but pitched a complete game allowing six hits and three runs.
CCU is back in action on Saturday at 11:45 as they play host to Rider followed by Boston at 2 p.m.
