Chanticleers Win A Pair On Day Two of Kickin' Chicken Classic; Two Shutout Wins


CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers softball team picked up their third consecutive win of the season on Saturday as they won a pair of games against the Rider Broncs and Boston Terriers at St. John Stadium as the Coastal pitching staff did not allow any runs in their 14 innings of work.

Rider

In the second, Coastal started the game as Taylor Sweigart singled to left field and then senior third baseman Chelsea D'Avilar doubled in the sophomore Sweigart. Later in the inning. pinch runner Michaela McAuley scored on a throwing error by the shortstop Rachael Zeides, giving the Chanticleers a 2-0 advantage.

The Chants picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Courtney Dean picked up her first hit of the season with a double down the left field line, followed up by a Sydney Guess RBI double. Guess came around later in the inning on a wild pitch by Bronc pitcher Brooklyn Trujillo.

Adrienne Visintine added her first collegiate hit of her career with a home run over the right-field scoreboard, putting the game away for the Chants, 5-0.

Kaitlin Beasley-Polko picked up her first win of the season as she pitched five innings, giving up one hit, while striking out seven.

Ally Marcano pitched in her first game with Coastal Carolina. The transfer student from Middletown, New York pitched the last two innings in game one as she allowed two hits while striking out one.

Sweigart paced the Chants at the plate going 2-for-2.

Boston

Coastal picked up three runs in the second inning and was highlighted by Courtney Dean's two RBI double to right center, scoring Sam Sack and Alexis Alvino.

Dean in the sixth put the game away for the Chanticleers as she hit her first homer of the season over the right field fence to extend the lead to 6-0.

The sophomore outfielder went 3-for-4 in game two adding four runs batted in.

In the top of the fourth CCU starter  Ashley Guillette worked her way out of trouble  as she allowed a two out double to Nicole Amodio  and a walk to Marina Sylvestri.  The senior then struck out Bella Gargicvich-Almeida to end the threat.

Guillette won her second straight as the senior pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts.

CCU is back in action Sunday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. as they take on the UIC Flames.
