Coastal Falls to App State in Conference Opener

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team fell 4-2 in it Sun Belt-opening match versus Appalachian State Wednesday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The loss drops Coastal to 5-6 overall as the Chants start their conference schedule 0-1. Appalachian State improves to 7-4.
The Mountaineers captured the opening doubles point on courts three and one.
Jeannez Daniel and Rebecca Morse defeated Alexa Tiefel and Alicja Zduniak, 6-2, at No. 3. App's first pairing of Heidi Swope and Jose Maria Zacarias then won 6-4 over Viktorija Demcenkova and Somer Dalla-Bona to clinch the point.
Swope and Sevo won App's first singles points on courts six and one, respectively.
Dalla-Bona (No. 3) and Jennifer Brown (No. 2) then won back to back singles points to make it a 3-2 match.
Coastal's comeback fell short, however, when Daniel clinched the match for App with a win at No. 4.
The Chants remain in Sun Belt play for their next match at Arkansas State on March 16.
