Chants Topped By Troy On Saturday, 10-4

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers fell to 23-8 overall and 4-4 in Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday afternoon as they dropped their second consecutive conference game to the Troy Trojans (20-13, 4-4 SBC) by the score of 10-4.

In the top of the first, the Trojans picked up two runs as they loaded the bases early off Chanticleer Ashley Guillette. Kaylee Hussey roped a double off the CCU starters, scoring Madeline Porter and Katie Webb to go up 2-0.

The Chanticleers came right back in the bottom half of the inning as sophomore Taylor Sweigart led off with a double into right center and two batters later sophomore Courtney Dean knocked in the Sweigart with an RBI groundout.

In the second, Troy's Kaylee Chapman led off with a double into left center, prompting CCU Head Coach Kelley Green to pull her starter, Guillette for Kaitlin Beasley-Polko.  The sophomore allowed a bunt single to Tailia Truitt, but then settled down to get the next two batters. With two outs, Stephanie Snyder singled to right field to extend the lead back to two runs and the Trojans up 3-1.

Freshman Sydney Guess hit her third home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth to close the lead by a run, but that's the closest the Chanticleers came. Troy picked up four in the top of the fifth as Hussey added her fourth RBI of the game and her third homer of the season. A single and a walk led to a Kaylee Chapman double down the left field line for two more runs. Troy added one last run in the inning after an RBI walk to Stephanie Snyder.

The middle of the Trojans line up went 7-for-15 on the day with six runs batted in. Snyder led the team with a 3-for-5 day, a run scored and the aforementioned four runs batted in.

Guess and Sweigart each had two hits apiece and both added solo homers in the game.

Annie Willis improved to 6-7 on the season as the Troy starter pitched five innings, allowed five hits, four runs, three unearned.

Coastal Carolina looks to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 12 noon.
