WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on Sunday, sweeping Carson-Newman 5-0 before falling to UNCW 3-2 to close the UNCW Dig & Dive Classic.
Coastal moves to 11-8 on the season with Sunday's win and loss. The Chants return to action on Wednesday when they travel to #11 South Carolina for a 6 p.m. match. The two schools previously played each other this season on March 9, with South Carolina winning 5-0 at the CCU Beach Volleyball Complex.
Match 1: Coastal 5 – Carson-Newman 0
Coastal recovered nicely from a pair of losses on Saturday, starting Sunday's action with straight-sets wins across the board in a 5-0 victory over Carson-Newman.
Sydney Alvis and
Leah Hardeman picked up their ninth win of the season together, taking a 21-13, 21-11 decision at No. 1.
Anaiah Boyer and
Lucy Campbell became the second CCU pairing to reach double digits in wins this season, recording their 10th victory at No. 2, 21-10, 21-11.
Tanner Gauthier and
Aleksandra Djuric held their opponents to single digits, winning the No. 3 match 21-9, 21-5.
Kate Federico and
Shelby Ladewig took the fourth court 21-15, 21-7.
Kalin Eske and
Anett Nemeth took the No. 5 court, 21-10, 21-7.
Match 2: UNCW 3 – Coastal 2
Coastal picked up wins on the second and fifth courts in the second match of the day, a 3-2 loss to UNCW.
Eske and Nemeth won their second match of the day at No. 5, 21-19, 21-13.
Campbell and Boyer also won another No. 2 match, defeating Katie McCullough and Jaime Thomas in three sets. The CCU pairing won the first set 21-16, and held on for a 15-10 win in the third set.
UNCW claimed points on the first and third courts in straight sets, and took the fourth court in three sets.
