Pontiac, Mich. – Coastal Carolina's
Haley Alexander, reigning ASUN Player of the Week, scored four goals to lead the Chanticleers to an 8-3 win over host Detroit Mercy on a rainy day in Pontiac, Mich., Saturday afternoon. The win improved Coastal's record to 12-4 overall while the Titans fell to 7-8 on the season with the loss.
The Chanticleers opened the match with a three-goal run.
Samantha Courtemanche (one goal and two assists) picked up the first tally of the day off the feed from
Lyla Robinson followed by a
Lauren Cremen woman-down goal off of Courtemanche's first assist of the game. Alexander scored her first goal of the day on a free-position goal with 14:23 remaining in the opening stanza to put the Chants up 3-0
UDM's Kaitlyn Wandelt scored her 38th goal of the season to cut into the Chants lead at 3-1 with 8:26 remaining until the intermission.
CCU's Robinson scored her second point of the day and increased the CCU lead to 4-1 with 4:06 on the game clock in the first half.
Morgan Girardi cut the lead in at 4-2 half with 2:36 remaining until halftime.
Coastal Carolina opened the second half with its second three-goal run of the contest with Alexander (24:02, 12:25, & 10:31) getting all three of the goals in the run to make it 7-2.
The Titans picked up their final tally when Kamyrn Corraro got her 29th goal of the season with 8:44 left in regulation.
Bailey O'Brien closed out the scoring for the final margin of 8-3 when she found the back of the net with 4:04 remaining in the game.
Harley Barrett made seven stops while the Chants' defense helped force 21 turnovers and blocked a shot.
Megan Kilpatrick and
Hannah Krin each caused two turnovers and scooped two ground balls.
Coastal Carolina will return to regular season action one last time as the Chants will travel to Elon, N.C. to take on Elon, Sunday, April 28, with the opening draw scheduled for 1 p.m.
