Four Chants Under Par After Day One of Mason Rudolph Championship

Coastal Carolina men’s golf is in third after 18 holes of play at the Mason Rudolph Championship
Franklin, Tenn. – Four Chanticleers shot under par over the first 18-holes of play on Friday to place the Coastal Carolina men's golf team in third-place after round one at the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt University at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
As a team, the Chants shot a round of 276, -8 under par, to sit seven strokes behind the clubhouse leader in No. 25 Tennessee (269, -15). Memphis is in second-place just one shot in front of the Chants at 275, -9 under par.
The team round of 276 is the lowest 18-hole team round of the season for the Chants and the lowest since a 276 in the third round of the 2018 Sun Belt Championship last April.
"We had a solid day today and are off to another great start. We got four solid rounds today. States did a very nice job following his triple at hole number 10," head coach Jim Garren stated. "A really good round from Danny. No bogeys on his card was impressive. Also solid starts for Wes and Zack once again. Zack battled food poisoning on Wednesday night and yesterday, but he's starting to get his energy back. It was nice to see him birdie the last two holes of the day."
States Fort (68, -3), Wes Artac (69, -2), Daniel Overas (69, -2) and Zack Taylor (70, -1) all shot under par on the day, while Luis Ruiz carded a round of 75, +4.
Fort paced the Chants with his low-round 68, -3 under par, on Friday to end the day tied for 13th. He carded two birdies on the front nine to shoot a 34, -1 under par, and then after posting a triple-bogey on hole number 10, he finished the round out with five birdies over his last eight holes.
Artac and Overas are both tied for 18th overall with matching first round scores of 69, -2 under par. Artac tallied four birdies and 12 pars over his 18 holes, while Overas totaled two birdies and 16 pars over his round of play.
Taylor shot two birdies on both the front and back nine for a 35 on both the front and back nine to shoot his first round 70, -1 under par.
CCU's Ruiz had a solid score of 75, +4, as he shot two birdies on the front nine to go along with his 10 pars for his opening round.
On the heels of the Chants is No. 45 Northwestern (278, -6), Western Kentucky (279, -5), Kentucky (279, -5), No. 20 Liberty (280, -4) and No. 41 Marquette (280, -4) followed by 10 other teams.
Round two of the three-round event will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET. Coastal will tee-off in the last group starting at 1:05 p.m. ET.
