Coastal Carolina men’s golf is four strokes back of the leader heading into the final round on Sunday

Franklin, Tenn. – Coastal Carolina men's golf had two players in Zack Taylor and Wes Artac card rounds in the 60s on Saturday to lead the Chanticleers to a second round team score of 281, -3 under par, on day two of the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.

With team scores of 276 and 281, the Chanticleers are in a tie for second-place overall with No. 25 Tennessee with a 36-hole score of 557, -11 under par. Coastal is just four strokes behind team leader No. 4 Vanderbilt (553, -15) heading into the final round of play on Sunday.

Coastal was one of just six teams in the 17-team field to record a team score under par over the second round of play on Saturday.

"Steady playing today for us and it's nice to be in contention again heading into the final round," head coach Jim Garren stated. "We had a lot of chances to put a special round together today, but we just didn't putt very well overall. We hit the ball great to keep ourselves in the game. Another pair of good rounds from Zack and Wes and a combined four much-needed birdies on No. 18 to finish the day."

Taylor followed his first round 70, -1 under par, yesterday with a second round 67, -4 under par, on Saturday to climb up into a tie for 10th-place overall with his 36-hole score of 137, -5 under par. The junior's round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 No. 14, four birdies and 10 pars over his 18-holes of play on Saturday. He shot a 32, -3 under par, on the front nine and closed out his round with a 35, -1 under par, on the back nine capped off with a birdie on No. 18.

Artac posted his second-straight round of 69, -2 under par, at the event to put himself in a tie for 13th-place overall with a 36-hole score of 138, -4 under par, heading into the final round. The first-year Chant topped his front nine score of 36, +1, with a back nine 33, -3 under par, which included carding three birdies over the last five holes of the round. Artac had five birdies on the day.

States Fort continued his strong play on Saturday, as he registered a second round 71, even par. Coupled with his first round 68, -3 under par, the junior is in a tie for 17th overall at 139, -3 under par. Fort totaled three birdies and 12 pars over his 18 holes on the day.

Seniors Daniel Overas and Luis Ruiz turned in rounds of 75, +4, and 74, +3, respectively, on day two of play.
Overas, who did not have a bogey on Friday, had three birdies and eight pars on Saturday en route to his round of 75, +4. He will enter day three in a tie for 45th overall with his 36-hole score of 144, +2.

Ruiz dropped a stroke from day one to day two, carding a round of 74, +3, on Saturday after shooting a 75, +4, on Friday. The senior is tied for 70th overall with his 36-hole score of 149, +7.

The final round of play will be a shotgun start beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. CT as inclement weather is forecasted later on in the day.
