Chants Post Top-Five Finish at Mason Rudolph Championship

Coastal Carolina men’s golf will next be in action at the 2019 Sun Belt Men’s Golf Championship
Franklin, Tenn. – With a little rain and two lightning delays on Sunday, the Coastal Carolina men's golf team shot a final round 294, +10, to finish in a tie for fourth-place overall at the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted this weekend by Vanderbilt University at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
Coastal finished tied for fourth with Middle Tennessee, Kentucky and Western Kentucky with a 54-hole team score of 851, -1 under par. The Chants carded rounds of 276, 281 and 294 over the three-day event. The Chants' first-round 276 was their best team round of the season, while the 54-hole score of 851 is the third-best tournament score for the team on the year.
Host and No. 4-nationally ranked Vanderbilt won the event with a final round 270, -14 under par, and a team tournament low 54-hole score of 823, -29 under par. No. 20 Liberty placed second overall with a team score of 840, -12 under par, followed by No. 25 Tennessee in third-place at 841, -11 under par.
Senior Wes Artac led the Chanticleers with a final round of 72, +1, on Sunday to finish in a tie for 15th overall. The Texas native posted rounds of 69, 69 and 72 to finish with a 54-hole score of 210, -3 under par. He totaled four birdies and nine pars on an up-and-down round that also saw him shoot five bogeys on the day.
Artac led the team in par-3 stroke average (2.93, -1) and in birdies with 13 on the weekend. He also tallied 31 pars and was tied for the team-best par-5 stroke average at 4.58, -5 under par.
Juniors Zack Taylor and States Fort both finished the three-day event in a tie for 21st overall with 54-hole scores of 212, -1 under par.
Taylor followed his first two rounds of 70 and 67 with a final round 75, +4, on Sunday, while Fort posted rounds of 68, 71 and 73 over his three days of play. On Sunday, Taylor carded three birdies and 10 pars, yet also carded three bogeys and two double bogeys on the day. Fort finished his final round +1 on both the front and back nine and had also had three birdies overall over his final 18-holes of play.
Taylor led the Chants with a par-4 scoring average of 4.04, +1, had the lone eagle for the Chants and finished tied with Fort with 32 pars overall for the tournament. Fort was tied with Artac with the team-best par-5 scoring average of 4.58, -5 under par, and team-high 13 birdies on the weekend.
Seniors Luis Ruiz and Daniel Overas rounded out the Chants' lineup with final round scores of 74, +3, and 80, +9, respectively, on Sunday.
Ruiz recorded rounds of 75, 74 and 74 to place in a tie for 69th overall with a 54-hole score of 223, +10, while Overas turned in scores of 69, 75 and 80 to finish one stroke back of Ruiz at 224, +11, and in a tie for 75th overall.
The two seniors finished first and second on the team for the weekend in pars with Ruiz carding 34 and Overas posting 33 over the 54-holes of play.
With their head-to-head win over Georgia Southern (14th – 865), the Chanticleers extended their winning streak over Sun Belt Conference foes to 23-straight victories.
Coastal will now set its sights on defending the Sun Belt Conference Championship. The 2019 Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship will take place on April 21-24 at the Raven Golf Course at Sandestin in Miramar Beach, Fla.
