CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team defeated Georgia Southern, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The Chanticleers improve to 13-7 (6-2 SBC) with their fourth straight win over a Sun Belt opponent. Georgia Southern drops to 11-11 (3-5 SBC).
GS got the match started with a 6-0 win at No. 3, but the Chants rallied to take the point with wins of 6-1 and 6-3 on the second and first courts, respectively. Victorija Demcenkova was paired with Jessie Mount at No. 2, while Somer Dalla-Bona and Jennifer Brown teamed up to win the No. 1 match.
Coastal won the first two singles points to take a 3-0 lead. Dalla-Bona took the third court in straight sets, and Brown did the same on the second.
GS responded with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 to cut the Chants' lead to one, 3-2.
Demcenkova provided the match-winner for Coastal, winning the first court in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Coastal has just two matches left in the regular season, both at home at the Stevens Tennis Complex. The Chants host Texas State on April 12 and UT Arlington on April 14. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
