Portland, Ore. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team pulled off another upset with its 1-0 win at #20 Portland in the final game on its season-opening west coast swing.
The lone score of the match came in the 76
th minute when
Emile Rzepecki was able to head the ball into the net, just out of reach of Portland goalkeeper Nico Campuzano, who was able to get a hand on the ball.
The play started after a handball call against Portland just outside the 18.
Archie Filliter fed the ball into the front of the net and Rzepecki out-jumped the Portland defenders for the match-winner.
CCU goalkeeper Alberto Ciroi came up big with the first shutout of his Coastal Career. He had six saves, including three in the first five minutes of the second half.
The Chanticleers were outshot 12-7 and 6-3 in shots on goal.
The first half was an evenly battled contest.
Jeranimo Power gave the Chants its best scoring opportunity in the 10
th minute when his shot in the 18 just cleared the crossbar.
Both teams finished the first 45 minutes with three shots, one shot on goal and one save. CCU's aggressiveness was also evident in its four corner kicks compared to two for the homes standing Pilots.
The win moved the Chants to 2-0 on the season, with both wins not only coming on the road, but against top-25 ranked programs.
