Chanticleers Tie Spiders in Conway

Coastal Carolina women’s soccer

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team played the visiting Richmond Spiders to a 3-3 double-overtime tie on Sunday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Stadium. The Chants record is now 2-4-1 while the Spiders move to 3-2-2.

Sunny Sigurvinsdottir put Coastal in front 1-0 early in the match with her fourth tally on the season while Megan Brouse picked up her second assist of the year in the sixth minute. Sigurvinsdottir is the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week.

Richmond evened the match at 1-1 when Molly Morgan fired a shot past the outstretched arms of the CCU goalkeeper for the unassisted goal in the 19th minute for her second of the season.

In the 25th minute, the Spiders took their only lead of the match when Morgan found Alyssa Walker in front of the net for the 2-1 advantage.

In the 29th minute, CCU's Aminah Johnson took control of the ball just inside the box and found a streaking Hannah Miller who put the ball in the back of the net to knot the score at 2-2 where the score remained at the intermission.

With nine minutes expiring from the second half game clock, Loranna Austin scored for her first career goal. Austin dribbled past the UR defense and put the ball past a diving Spider goalkeeper to the bottom of the net for the 3-2 lead.

Richmond's Walker scored her fifth goal of the season to even the match at 3-3 in the 79th minute when Brooke Beam sent a crossing pass off a corner kick past the goal line for the match-tying score.

After 90 minutes of action, the teams squared off in extra time with each team garnering one shot each in the first 10 minutes of overtime. The Chanticleers had four attempts in the final 10 minutes but were unable to get the winner past the Richmond goalkeeper.

Coastal will return to action on Friday, Sept. 20 as it will open the conference portion of the schedule when Georgia Southern comes to Conway. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
