Final Box (pdf)
CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team and Virginia Commonwealth battled for 110 minutes with both teams only able to score one goal in 1-1 double-overtime thriller.
The Chants came out of the gates strong in the opening 45 minutes attacking VCU on the offensive end. After several near misses the reigning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week
Sam Snaith, was able to take a center pass from
Naty Endale and head the ball into the net 15 minutes into the game. While the Chants had plenty of other chances that would turn out to be the lone goal of the night for CCU.
The second half was a completely opposite half as VCU came out aggressive on the offensive end. The Rams missed several close shots, but continually held the ball on the CCU defensive side of the field.
Finally with less than five minutes left in the game, Ryo Shimazaki scored off a Jared Greene assist from right in front of the net for the equalizing score.
Both teams had chances to score in the overtime periods but neither found the net as both goalkeepers made some strong saves. CCU goalie
Alberto Ciroi played all 110 minutes and picked up three saves, while VCU goalie Mario Sequeira had six saves.
CCU finished the game with 14 shots, seven of those on goal. VCU had 13 shots with four on goal.
