LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team hit the road to face another nationally-ranked team in #8 Kentucky, and the Wildcats escaped with a 1-0 win over the Chanticleers. It was CCU's fifth match of the season against a team ranked among the top-25 programs in the nation.

It was a defensive battle from the start as neither team got a lot going on the offensive end of the field. It was a physical game between the two ranked programs with each team being called for 14 fouls. In fact, the lone goal was on a first half penalty kick for Kentucky.

CCU outshot Kentucky 4-2 in the opening 45 minutes, but the difference was a penalty kick Kalil ElMedkar was able to get past CCU goalie Alberto Ciroi in the 20th minute for what turned out to be the lone score of the game.

The Chants finished the game outshooting the Wildcats 7-4. Each team had three shots on goal. CCU's aggressiveness was also evident in its four corner kicks compared to one for UK.

Tyrone Mondi led both teams with four shots, with one of his shots being stopped by UK goalkeeper Enrique Facusse, who finished with three saves. Alberto Ciroi had one save for the Chants.

Coastal will be back home for its next two games. The first coming on Tuesday, Oct. 1 when they host USC Upstate at 7 p.m.
