Coastal Tips-Off Three-Game Road Swing This Week

Coastal Carolina women’s basketball travels to Arkansas and North Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will take to the road this week, as they head to Arkansas to take on defending Sun Belt champion Little Rock on Wednesday (Jan. 15), before heading to North Carolina to visit the Mountaineers of Appalachian State on Saturday (Jan. 18) in an unusual Sun Belt Conference weekly schedule.
 
The Chanticleers enter the week ranked No. 21 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll and atop of the Sun Belt standings with an overall record of 13-2 and 3-1 in conference play. At the same time, the Trojans are 5-10 overall and 3-1 in the SBC, while App State has a 4-11 record and is 1-3 in the conference.
 
CCU and Little Rock have played five times with LR winning all five contests. However, Coastal and the Mountaineers have met on the hardwood 13 times with App State having a 7-6 advantage over the Chants.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chanticleers enter the week as the second-best scoring team in the Sun Belt, averaging 76.7 points per game while also boasting the top defense allowing just 58.3 points per contest.
 
As a team, the Chants are leading the conference in both overall field goal percentage at 43.9 and three-point shooting at 35.2 percent.
 
Senior DJ Williams is leading the CCU offense with 16.5 points per game, including 23.7 points per game in conference play, while sophomore reserve forward Aja Blount is adding 15.2 points per contest and 18.3 points per game in Sun Belt action.
 
COASTAL LAST TIME OUT
 
Williams scored nine of her game-high 21 points in the final period as No. 21 Coastal Carolina earned a share of the Sun Belt Conference lead with a 62-56 win over Texas Arlington last Saturday afternoon at the HTC Center.
 
Coastal also got 13 points and nine rebounds from senior guard Torrie Cash, the smallest player on the court at 5'6", and 10 points from Blount, including nine of them in the second half.
 
SCOUTING LITTLE ROCK
 
The Trojans enter the week at the bottom of the Sun Belt in scoring at 55.5 points per game, although their scoring average has picked up to 65.0 points per game in conference play. Defensively, LR is allowing 64.9 points per contest on the season while lowering that to 55.8 points per contest in Sun Belt action.
 
Little Rock is led by senior Kyra Collier, who is averaging 15.8 points per game while the Trojans are shooting 38.4 percent from the field and 26.5 from behind the arc.
 
LITTLE ROCK LAST TIME OUT
 
Little Rock ended the game on a 7-0 run and held Georgia State scoreless over the final three minutes to clinch the 66-46 victory Saturday afternoon, the program's 38th consecutive home win in conference play.
 
Collier scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Trojans offensive attack, which shot 55 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep.
 
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
 
App State enters the week allowing 68.3 points per contest while scoring just 57.1 points per game.
 
The Mountaineers offense is paced by Pre Stanley, who is scoring 15.1 points per game while Ashley Polacek is adding 11.9 points per contest.
 
As a team, Appalachian State is shooting 35.7 percent from the floor while hitting 24.8 percent of its three-point attempts.
 
APPALACHIAN STATE LAST TIME OUT
 
After trailing by as much as 16 in the first half, App State completed the comeback with a 73-65 overtime victory against Texas State on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Center.
 
Stanley recorded a season and game-high 25 points to lead the Mountaineers in scoring, while getting scoring help from Haile McDonald with a career-high 17 points and nine rebounds and Polacek with 11 points in the Mountaineer comeback.
