Chanticleers Travel to Arkansas State in Key Sun Belt Contest

Coastal Carolina women’s basketball wraps up three-game road trip in Jonesboro, Ark.

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team travels to Jonesboro, Ark. for a key Sun Belt Conference matchup against the Arkansas State Red Wolves on Saturday, Jan. 25. The tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET
 
CCU remains at the No. 21 spot in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll and atop the Sun Belt Conference standings with an overall record of 15-2 and 5-1 in conference action. A-State enters the week with a 7-10 overall record and tied for fourth with a 4-2 conference record before a Jan. 23 meeting with Louisiana.
 
Coastal holds a 4-2 record in the all-time series between the two teams with the Chanticleers having won three-straight contests.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chants continue to be one of the top-scoring teams in the Sun Belt averaging 76.4 points per game while allowing a league-low 57.4 points per contest.
 
As a team, CCU leads the conference shooting 44 percent from the floor and 35.3 percent of its three-point shots.
 
Senior guard DJ Williams leads the team offensively with 17.1 points per contest overall while in Sun Belt only games the Moreno Valley, Calif. native, is averaging 22.6 points per game. Sophomore forward Aja Blount is adding 15.1 points per game on the season while upping her average to 17 points per contest in conference play. Torrie Cash has hit double digits in five of the six Sun Belt games to average 12.5 points per game.
 
COASTAL LAST TIME OUT
 
Williams recorded a season-high 31 points and 10 rebounds as the Chants cruised to an 80-53 win over the Appalachian State Mountaineers last Saturday in Boone, N.C. The senior guard moved into eighth-place on the all-time scoring list surpassing former Chant Alisha Dill (2003-06) with 1,343 career points and into third in assists with 339.
 
Blount came off the bench to score 15 points, 13 in the second half while Cash chipped in with 12 points to aide Williams in her third double-double of the year.
 
ABOUT ARKANSAS STATE
 
The Red Wolves are allowing a league-high 71.7 points per game while scoring just 63.5 points per contest prior to Thursday's contest with the Ragin' Cajuns.
 
Arkansas State enters the week shooting 38.7 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from behind the arc.
 
A-State has three players averaging in double digits on the year. Peyton Martin leads the team with 13.5 points per game while Jireh Washington and Morgan Wallace are adding 12.8 and 10.1 points per contest, respectively.
 
ARKANSAS STATE LAST TIME OUT
 
The Red Wolves shot over 50 percent from the field but turned the ball over 22 times to fall 67-58 to Little Rock on Jan. 18. The Trojans snapped Arkansas State's four-game winning streak to improve to 7-11 overall and 4-2 in Sun Belt action while A-State fell to 7-10 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.
 
Washington led A-State with 23 points while Little Rock was paced by Kyra Colliers' 26 points and Teal Battles' 21 points.
