Men's Basketball Heads to Arkansas for Two Games

Game Notes

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina University men's basketball team will hit the road for their next two games looking to end a current three-game losing streak. The Chanticleers will play at Sun Belt leader Little Rock in the first game of the road trip on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Little Rock as won four consecutive and 10 of its last 12 contests, while the Chants have lost three-straight and four of their last five.

LR is the surprise of the conference with its' league-leading 9-2 Sun Belt record and 15-7 overall record. They were picked to finish 11th in the preseason Sun Belt coaches' poll and 12th in the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.

The Chants will face the tallest team in the league as the Trojans boast a team that features a seven-footer, a 6'11" player, two players standing 6'10", and another four players all taller than 6'7", and three more players standing 6'6".

The Trojans have three players averaging in double digits led by Marquis Nowell at 17.4 points per game. He only played four minutes in Little Rock's 71-55 win in Conway just two weeks ago and didn't score.

Ben Coupet is averaging 11.9 points per game, but the player that makes Little Rock go on both ends of the court is 6'10" Ruot Monyyong. He is averaging 11.8 points per game and leads the Sun Belt in rebounds at 10.3 per game.  Monyyong not only leads the Sun Belt in rebounds, but he has a conference-high 46 blocked shots.

Little Rock's defense is the reason the Trojans are leading the conference. They are giving up only 66 points per game and holding their opponents to .407 shooting percentage from the field.

The Chants (11-10 / 4-6 Sun Belt) will look to counter with an offense that is averaging 78 points per game. DeVante' Jones continues to lead CCU with a 15.3 points per game average while Keishawn Brewton (15.0) and Tommy Burton (11.5) are also averaging in double-figures. Burton is also the leader of CCU's league-leading rebounding team averaging 7.1 per game, as CCU averages 41 rebounds per game and is outrebounding its' opponents by over five per game.

The Chants will also face Arkansas State on the road trip. The game, which will be played in Jonesboro, Ark., is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m.
