
Chants to Compete this Week at The Grove

Coastal Carolina will play on Monday and Tuesday, weather permitting
CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina men's golf will return to the links for fall competition this week, Oct. 12-13, at the Intercollegiate at The Grove hosted by Middle Tennessee at The Grove Club in College Grove, Tenn.
The two-day event sponsored by T3 and Shane McFarland Construction will consist of 36 holes, 18 holes of play each day, and will play par 72 and 7,368 yards. Four of the top six scores for each day will go towards the team score for that round.
This year's tournament field includes Appalachian State, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, Francis Marion, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, Mercer, host Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, Troy, ULM, Western Carolina, and Western Kentucky.
Coastal head coach Jim Garren will again send out an experienced lineup this week in Zack Taylor, Connor Newton, Tyler Gray, Brady Hinkle, Seth Taylor, and Gavin Noble. All six competed for the Chants who finished fifth overall as a team at the Graeme McDowell Invitational two weeks ago.
Last time out, Zack Taylor finished in a log jam at 15th at 217, +1, with rounds of 71, 73, and 73 at the Graeme McDowell Invitational. Taylor turned in 10 birdies and 36 pars over his 54 holes of play in the fall-opening event.
Newton placed in a tie for 24th overall with his 54-hole score of 219, +3, which included a final round of 73, +1, to go along with his first-day scores of 76 and 70. The junior registered 10 birdies and 31 pars over his two days of play at the UAB event.
Gray carded three-straight rounds of 72, even par, to finish the two-day event in a tie for 11th-place overall with a 54-hole score of 216, even par. He closed out the tournament with 12 birdies, four on each round, and 31 pars to lead the Chants with a top-15 finish.
Two weeks ago, Hinkle finished with rounds of 72, 75, and 76 to place in a tie for 30th overall with a 54-hole score of 223, +7, while Seth Taylor carded rounds of 75, 82, and 76 for a 54-hole score of 233, +17, and in 58th-place overall. Hinkle matched Noble for a team-high 37 pars to go along with six birdies, while Seth Taylor tallied 33 pars.
Noble carded rounds of 69, 71, and 76 to finish his season-opening event tied for 11th overall. For the tournament, he totaled nine birdies, all of which came on nine different holes, to go along with 37 pars.
