CONWAY, S.C. – A pair of freshmen in
Marissa Kilgarriff and
Brad Wiggins led the Coastal Carolina women's and men's cross country teams at the 2020 Chanticleer Challenge hosted by Coastal Carolina at the Hackler Golf Course in Conway, S.C.
Women's Results
Making her Chants' debut, Kilgarriff finished second overall with her time of 20:39.7 in the women's 5K event.
Sophomore
Ashley Rulison finished close behind Kilgarriff in third-place overall with a time of 21:02.5, while fellow Chants
Rebecca Lehman and
Mya Ray crossed the finish lines with times of 25:15.2 and 27:20.6, respectively.
Georgia Southern won the team event, as the Eagles were led by Merabu Nagwandala who won the race with a time of 20:24.2. The Eagles (22 points) finished ahead of The Citadel (33 points) and Francis Marion (70 points).
Coastal did not factor in the team results as the Chants had only four runners compete in the meet.
Men's Results
In the men's race, which included runners from Coastal, The Citadel, and Francis Marion, Wiggins paced the Chants with a time of 28:35.5. His third-place time topped his previous season-best of 28:52.01, which he set back at the GATA Classic in September.
Sophomore
Monroe Thompkins finished seventh overall with a time of 30:12.5, while junior
Jerardo Perez crossed the finish line in ninth with his time of 31:26.0.
The Citadel men's team won the 8K event with a score of 15 points as William Ray (27:31.5) and Ty Duben (27:59.6) finished first and second overall.
The Chanticleers will next compete at the Sun Belt Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, in Mobile, Ala.
