Men’s Golf Set to Play at Maridoe Collegiate Invitational

Coastal Carolina will wrap up the fall season this week at the prestigious event
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team will return to the links this week, Oct. 18-20, at the prestigious Maridoe College Invitational hosted by North Texas at The Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.
The Maridoe Golf Club will play at 7,287 yards and will be a par-72 course for the tournament. Tee times will begin each day at 7:50 a.m. CT, running through 1:10 p.m. CT, with all players teeing off from Hole 1.
The 12 teams participating in the tournament (GolfStat rankings are based on last season's final rankings): No. 10 Baylor, Coastal Carolina, No. 26 East Tennessee State, Iowa State, No. 38 Kansas, North Texas, No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 27 Oklahoma State, No. 1 Pepperdine, TCU, No. 4 Texas, and No. 3 Texas Tech.
"It's an honor for our program to be competing in this event. It's the premier event in college golf this fall and it has the strongest field on the toughest golf course," head coach Jim Garren stated. "We've done a nice job so far this season of putting ourselves in position to win the tournaments on the final day and that will be the goal again this week. When you're playing the best teams in the country on a great golf course it's a very nice measuring stick to see where we stand as a program. The guys are excited and ready to get after it this week."
The Chants' lineup will be Zack Taylor, Tyler Gray, Gavin Noble, Connor Newton, and Seth Taylor. All have played in each of the first two tournaments this fall for coach Garren.
Zack Taylor has posted a pair of top-15 individual finishes thus far this season which includes three rounds under par, all of which were 71, 1-under par. He is second on the team this fall season with a stroke average of 71.8 over five rounds of play.
Gray, who is coming off his first collegiate win as he placed in a three-way tie at the Intercollegiate at the Grove last week, has been the top CCU golfer in each of the first two events this season. On top of his first-place finish last time out, Gray also led the Chants with an 11th-place finish at the Graeme McDowell Invitational. He has carded a team-low round 68 this fall to go along with four rounds of 72, even par, to post a team-low stroke average of 71.2 on the year.
Noble, who finished tied for 66th at The Grove with a 156, +12, last week will look to get back to the play that led him to an 11th-place finish with a 216, even par, at the Graeme McDowell Invitational in September. The sophomore has a low-round 69 this season, shot two rounds of par or better, and is fourth on the team with a 74.4 season stroke average through five rounds of play.
Newton has been consistent this fall for the Chants with rounds of 76, 70, 73, 74, and 74, for a stroke average of 73.4 on the year. He has finished 24th and 29th overall in the two events for the Chants but has counted in four of the five rounds played by the team this fall.
Seth Taylor will round out the lineup again this week, as the sophomore continues to factor in CCU's lineup each time out. Following a 233, +17, in the first tournament, he shot rounds of 71 and 77 last time to finish in a tie for 29th at the Intercollegiate at the Grove. He has posted a season stroke average of 76.2 this fall.
