CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina volleyball team will take to the road this weekend to open the 2020 season in Atlanta, Ga., as the Chanticleers face Sun Belt Conference foe Georgia State.

Jozsef Forman's squad will serve up the start of his ninth season at the helm of the Chanticleers at 11 a.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 9. The two teams will play the second game of the doubleheader at 6 p.m. ET on Friday before playing the final match of the series on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. ET.
The Chanticleers are coming off a 24-6 season overall, including a 13-3 mark in the Sun Belt, and are the preseason favorite in the East Division in a poll of the conference coaches. Coastal will again be led by
Anett Nemeth and
Brigitta Petrenko, both selected to the preseason All-Sun Belt Team.
Nemeth, a junior, returns after being tabbed the Sun Belt's Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year following the 2019 season and was the conference's preseason Offensive Player of the Year selection this year. She led the team and broke her own single-season record at Coastal Carolina with 515 kills in 2019 along with posting a .351 hitting percentage and 82 blocks.
Sophomore setter Petrenko is coming off a freshman campaign that saw her garner Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Sun Belt honors. She led the Conference with 0.58 aces per set and 67 service aces. Petrenko also led the Chants with 1,260 assists last season.
Georgia State will enter Friday's three-match series with a 2-5 overall record and a 1-4 Sun Belt Conference mark. Leah Wilcox leads the Panthers offensively, ranking eighth in the conference with 3.29 kills per set. Georgia State has a strong presence at the net, ranking second currently in the conference with 2.42 blocks per set.
