CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina volleyball will close out the regular season with a pair of home matches against Appalachian State as the Chanticleers look to complete their regular season fall slate unbeaten.
The Chanticleers (14-0, 14-0 SBC) and Appalachian State (1-10, 1-10 SBC) will play the first match of the series at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 12, in The HTC Center. The final match of the series and the 2020 regular season will be played on Friday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. ET.
Prior to the first match on Thursday, Coastal Carolina will honor seniors
Ani Bozdeva and
Hannah Emerson. Bozdeva, a senior outside hitter from Razlog, Bulgaria, is a three-year starter for the Chants and is currently second on the team in kills with 3.43 kills per set. Emerson is a 6-2 middle blocker from Greeley, Colo., and in her second season at Coastal after transferring from McCook Community College. As a part-time starter during her Coastal Carolina career, Emerson has recorded 22 kills and 38.0 blocks.
Coastal Carolina's 14-0 start to the season is a program record, topping the nine wins to open the 2019 season. In addition to the undefeated record, the Chants have lost only five sets of the 47 played so far this season. Coastal has won 16 consecutive sets entering the two-match series with the Mountaineers this week.
The Chanticleers are led offensively by junior
Anett Nemeth's 196 kills, which places her first in the Sun Belt and 18th in the NCAA with 4.17 kills per set. She also ranks ninth in the conference with a .295 hitting percentage. Bozdeva is second on the team with 133 kills and ranks 10th in the Sun Belt with a .284 hitting percentage.
Sophomore setter
Brigitta Petrenko has registered 319 set assists and ranks sixth in the Sun Belt and 34th in the NCAA with 8.49 assists per set. Petrenko also sets the offense when serving as she leads the conference and ranks third in the nation with 0.67 aces per set and leads the NCAA with 22 service aces. In ranking third in aces per set, the two ahead of her have only played seven and eight sets, respectively.
Sophomore libero
Lina Perugini leads the Coastal defense with 235 digs and ranks fifth in the Sun Belt and seventh in the NCAA with 5.00 digs per set.
Appalachian State, which dropped a pair of 3-0 matches in Boone, N.C., two weeks ago, is led offensively by Lexi Kohut's 3.22 kills per set. She also has 75 digs and 23 blocks for the Mountaineers. Setter Sophie Cain has handed out 6.86 assists per set and also leads the team with 13 service aces. In defense, libero Emma Reilly leads the teams with 160 digs, ranking 10th in the Sun Belt with 4.00 digs per set.
Fans attending the matches at the HTC Center will enter only through gate one and exit only through gate two. Gates three and four will be closed during all volleyball matches. Coastal Carolina is allowing a limited capacity of 150 fans into the match and all fans will be asked to wear face coverings at all times and maintain physical distancing in the seating area and while entering and exiting the arena. There will be no concessions during the matches.
