Chants Fall 12-7 to Owls on Saturday

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse team falls to 2-1 on the year

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team fell 12-7 to the Temple Owls on Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia, Pa. With the loss, the Chants fell to 2-1 on the year while the Owls improved to 2-3 on the season.
 
CCU was led by seniors Samantha Courtemanche and Megan Busch with three points each, as both had two goals and one assist. The Chants also picked up goals from Lauren Cremen, Megan Bozzi, and Kiley Davis to close out the scoring for the visiting team.
 
Temple's offense was provided by Bridget Whitaker with the hat-trick, while Meghan Hoffman and Abby Overman each had two goals apiece. The Owls also got one goal each from Maddie Gebert, Kara Nakrasius, Olivia Thompson, Jen Rodzewich, and Kimmy Weinstock.
 
Temple opened the first half with three goals to force CCU to call a timeout to regroup. Whitaker sandwiched a Thompson goal with two goals of her own to give the Owls a 3-0 lead.
 
Coastal answered with goals by Courtemanche and Busch to pull within one at 3-2.
 
The Owls responded with consecutive goals before Coastal's Courtemanche and Bozzi would make it a one score game. Temple then scored four-straight to take command of the contest, closing the first half with a two-goal lead at 6-4.
 
The Owls carried the momentum over into the opening minutes of the second half, registering three-straight goals to run out to a 9-4 lead.
 
For the game, CCU was outshot 30-21 and was only able to get off six shots in the second half of action. The home team had 17 turnovers compared to the 22 for the Chanticleers. Senior Emily D'Orsaneo grabbed three ground balls and caused two turnovers, while her classmate Megan Kilpatrick caused one turnover and scooped up four ground balls.
 
The Chants will close out the season-opening road trip with two games in Colorado. On Sunday, March 8, in Boulder, Co., CCU will play Colorado before going to Denver, Co. on Wednesday, March 11. The opening draw for both contests are 2 and 3 p.m. ET, respectively.
