Fort Paces Chants on Day One at Dorado Beach Collegiate

Coastal Carolina men’s golf will return to the links tomorrow for day two in Puerto Rico
DORADO, Puerto Rico – Coastal Carolina senior golfer States Fort carded a CCU low-round 69, -3 under par, on Sunday to pace the Chanticleers on day one of the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate hosted by UNC Greensboro in Puerto Rico.
The Chanticleers as a team shot a round of 295, +7, to end the day in 15th-place overall. CCU is just six strokes out of eighth-place entering the second round of play on Monday.
Fort got off to a great start with a birdie on his first hole of the day on the par-4 No. 7 and finished the opening day of play with five birdies, 11 pars, and two bogeys. His round of 69 has him in a tie for 10th-place overall on the individual leaderboard.
Behind Fort was Gavin Noble with a first-round 74, +2, and Zack Taylor with a round of 75, +3. Noble had an up-and-down round that saw three birdies and five bogeys, while Zack Taylor shot a 34, -2 under par, on the front nine, but struggled on the back nine with a 41, +5. Noble is in a tie for 58th overall and Zack Taylor sits in a tie for 71st after 18 holes of play.
Rounding out the lineup for the Chants on day one were Tyler Gray and Seth Taylor. Gray carded a round of 77, +5, to end the day in a tie for 90th overall, while Seth Taylor shot a first-round 79, +7, to finish the day in 92nd-place.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Brady Hinkle turned in an eagle on the par-5 hole No. 6 and four birdies to finish the day in a tie for 26th with an 18-hole score of 71, -1 under par.
Freshman Garrett Cooper, also playing as an individual, had his best round as a Chant to date, posting a first-round 73, +1, which included four birdies and 10 pars, to place in a tie for 48th-place overall.
No. 21 Louisville leads the field with a first-round team score of 269, -19 under par, seven strokes ahead of second-place No. 44 Kansas at 276, -12 under par.
Coastal will tee-off tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET along with Kentucky and Boston College.
