Coastal Carolina men’s golf to compete in the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team will have the unique experience this weekend of playing in the TPC Dorado Beach Collegiate event hosted by UNC Greensboro at the Dorado Beach Resort and Club in Dorado, Puerto Rico.

The 54-hole event, which will take place on Feb. 23-25, will play par-72, 7,112 yards.

The tournament field includes the Chanticleers, No. 6/9 Notre Dame, No. 21/18 Louisville, Georgia State, Indiana, Army, Boston College, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Michigan State, Kansas State, VCU, Kentucky, and host UNCG (Golfstat/Golfweek rankings).

The Chants will go with the same five from last week's spring-opening event with Zack Taylor, Gavin Noble, Seth Taylor, Tyler Gray, and States Fort. Sophomore Brady Hinkle and freshman Garrett Cooper will both play as individuals in the three-day tournament.

Zack Taylor is coming off perhaps the best overall tournament of his Coastal career last week at the Florida Gators Invitational, as he placed in a tie for fourth-place overall with a 54-hole score of 207, -3 under par. The senior carded rounds of 69, 68, and 70, which included a team-high 12 birdies over his three rounds of play, which was tied for the third-most in the entire tournament field.

Noble was consistent last time out at the Gators Invitational, carding rounds of 75, 76, and 74 for a three-round tournament score of 225, +15. This season, the freshman has posted a stroke average of 74.17 over 12 rounds of play, highlighted by a low-round 69 at the Saint Mary's Invitational in November.

Fellow freshman Seth Taylor improved over each of his three rounds in the spring opener last weekend, finishing the three-day event with a final round 70, even par. The first-year Chant enters play this weekend second on the team with a 72.73 stroke average on the season, which includes four rounds in the 60's and seven rounds of par or better on the year.

Gray is coming off the first top-10 finish of his young CCU career, as he posted rounds of 68, 71, and 71 and a 54-hole score of 210, even par, at the Gators Invitational. Gray's three rounds in the spring-opening event are three of the four lowest rounds in his collegiate career.

Fort, the most experienced golfer on the team, will be teeing off in the 32nd tournament of his career as a Chant. This season, the senior has registered a stroke average of 72.93, which is third on the team, and has recorded six rounds of par or better over his 15 rounds of play.

Both Hinkle and Cooper will be making their spring debuts this weekend. Hinkle played in three events over the 2019 fall season, posting a stroke average of 74.22 and a low-round of 70 over nine rounds of play. Cooper played as an individual at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in September, shooting rounds of 82, 77, and 80 to finish with a 54-hole score of 239, +23.
