CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will begin the final homestand of the season on Thursday, Feb. 27 against the ULM Warhawks followed by a visit from Louisiana on Saturday, Feb. 29 with the tip-off for each contest scheduled for 6 p.m. and 2 p.m. ET, respectively. It will be the only regular-season meeting between CCU and the two schools from Louisiana this season.
The Chanticleers jumped up three spots in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll to No. 10 this week while also receiving votes for the first time in program history in the USA Today Sports women's basketball coaches Poll.
Coastal Carolina and the Warhawks have met on the hardwood a total of four times with each squad picking up two wins apiece in the overall series. ULM picked up a 60-57 win over the Chants on March 2, 2019, at the HTC Center. Against Louisiana, CCU holds a slim overall series advantage at 3-2 after defeating the Ragin' Cajuns 67-62 in Conway, S.C. on Feb. 28, 2019.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chanticleers enter the week atop the Sun Belt with a 23-3 overall record and a 13-2 mark in conference play to go along with their No. 10 ranking in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll as well as receiving votes in the USA Today Sports coaches poll.
The offense continues to be one of the best in the Sun Belt averaging 77.6 points per game just behind Troy while allowing just 60.1 points per contest. The Chants' shooting is at the top of the conference as they are shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 34.8 from three-point land.
Senior guard
DJ Williams leads the offense averaging 18.8 points per game while sophomore forward
Aja Blount is second on the team with 15.0 points per contest. Senior center
Naheria Hamilton leads the Chants in rebounding, grabbing 9.8 boards per game.
LAST TIME OUT COASTAL
CCU won its 10th game on the road while recording its eighth-straight win on the season with the 66-50 win over Georgia State.
Blount recorded her third double-double and second-consecutive with 23 points and 10 assists to power the Chants to the 16-point victory while the guard tandem of
Torrie Cash and Williams added 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Coastal loosened up first and took control early jumping out to a 16-2 first quarter lead before Blount would enter and score 12 of her 23 points in the second quarter as CCU raced out to a 38-15 lead at the intermission.
SCOUTING ULM
ULM enters the contest with a 3-22 overall record and a 1-13 slate in conference action after falling 62-49 in their last outing on Feb. 22.
The Warhawks are allowing 67.1 points per contest while shooting 36.8 percent from the field and 27.4 from three-point range to average 54.5 points per outing.
Lauren Fitch leads two ULM players in double-digit scoring with 13.8 points per game with Amber Thompson adding 10.9 points per contest. Kierra Crockett leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 6.7 boards per game.
SCOUTING LOUISIANA
The Ragin' Cajuns enter the week with a 15-10 overall mark. In Sun Belt action, they are 8-6 on the season after picking up a 62-49 win over in-state foe ULM last Saturday, Feb. 22.
For the season, Louisiana is averaging 66.3 points per game while allowing 64.8 points per contest. As a team, UL is shooting 39.4 percent from the floor and 32.0 percent from behind the arc.
Ty'Reona Doucet leads the Ragin' Cajuns in scoring with 12.9 points per game while two other Cajuns are just under 10 points per contest as Brandi Williams and Skyler Goodwin are adding 9.7 and 9.5 points per outing, respectively.
LAST TIME OUT ULM & LOUISIANA
The two squads from the Pelican State met on the hardwood on Saturday, Feb. 22, with the Ragin' Cajuns pulling out a 62-49 victory over the Warhawks in Monroe, La.
Louisiana had three players record double-digits in scoring as Kimberly Burton, Jomyra Mathis, and Doucet scored 19, 18, and 14 points, respectively, to lead the Ragin' Cajuns. The Warhawks were led by Thompson with 16 points and Brooks who added 10 points.
Defensively, Louisiana forced ULM into 18 turnovers and capitalized them into 28 points on the offensive end of the floor.
