CONWAY, S.C. - The 2003 season was one of the best in Coastal Carolina men's history, as the Chanticleers posted an overall record of 20-3, the best in program history (to date). The Chants won both the Big South regular-season and tournament titles en route to making its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
The team also shut out 14 opponents, breaking the record previously held by the 1986 team, and also rode a 13-match winning streak into the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
Coastal became the first Big South Conference school to earn the right to host an NCAA Championship event, playing the opening round of the tournament at the CCU Soccer Field against Southern Conference champion Davidson on Nov. 21, 2003. The Chants defeated the visiting No. 22 Wildcats 3-0 in the first round, blanked No. 10 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. in the second round, before falling at No. 9 Santa Clara 3-2 in overtime in the Sweet 16.
