CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's basketball team will be back home at the HTC Center to host the Troy Trojans on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23. Friday's action is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. ET while Saturday's matinee will begin at 3 p.m. ET.
The Chants will enter this weekend's games at 9-3 overall and 3-2 in Sun Belt play and with a national ranking of No. 23 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll.
After the Chanticleers narrow road loss at Georgia State last Saturday, CCU fell to third in the East Division and will be looking to make a move back towards the top of the division with two home wins.
CCU will showcase the top-scoring team in the Sun Belt at 88.7 points per game.
DeVante' Jones leads the Chants in scoring averaging at 22.2 points per game and ranks seventh nationally. He is also one of the top thieves in the country with a league-best 2.67 steals per game which is second nationally.
It's not all Jones doing the scoring for CCU, as first-year Chants Deanthonly Tipler (16.1) and
Essam Mostafa (13.0) are averaging double figures, with Mostafa adding 10.6 rebounds per game and five double-doubles on the season.
Ebrima Dibba continues to be one of the most unselfish players in college basketball as he leads the team in assists with 67 despite not being the team's point guard. His 5.6 assists per game average is second in the Sun Belt and 36th nationally.
Troy enters the weekend 6-7 overall and 1-3 in East Division play. They have one of the most exciting freshmen in the conference in Kam Woods who moved into the starting lineup last weekend at Georgia Southern and promptly averaged over 17 points per game in the two games, which includes a 23-point outing in Friday's action.
Troy has a balanced scoring attack led by Zay Williams and his 12.0 points per game average. It's not all Williams, as both Woods and Nick Stampley are averaging 10.3 points per game on the year.
Williams leads the team at 7.6 rebounds per game, is shooting 50 percent from the field, and is also the team-leader in assists with 23. Stampley is also averaging 7.0 rebounds per game with 12 steals while Woods' 13 steals is a team-high.
