Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Coastal Carolina Defeats Charlotte 1-0

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak to earn three major points in Conference USA play on Tuesday night, defeating the Charlotte 49ers 1-0 at the CCU Soccer Stadium. 
 
The Chanticleers improve to 3-3-4 overall and remain unbeaten in C-USA play at 2-0-4, while the Niners drop to 7-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play. 
 
"I was very pleased with our guys," head coach Shaun Docking said. "Fantastic effort tonight. We competed really, really, well, [and] created some good chances. I'm really pleased with our guys, they showed so much heart and competitiveness tonight." 
 
The first half was a defensive battle that saw just seven total shots as the two teams headed into the locker room locked at 0-0 after the opening 45 minutes.  
 
CCU was awarded a penalty kick in the 62nd minute following a handball call on CLT. Michael Fowler converted to give the Chants a 1-0 lead and earn his second goal of the season. 
 
Charlotte's Lasse Laursen was shown his second yellow of the night, resulting in a red, in the 88th minute and the Niners had to play a man down the remainder of the contest. 
 
In just his second start of the season, freshman goalkeeper Leon Schmidt earned the first clean sheet of his career, recording three saves against the 49ers. 
 
Coastal ended the night with a 9-5 shooting advantage and a 5-4 edge on corner kicks. CCU and CLT both saw just three shots on goal over the 90 minutesFowler and Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual each recorded a game-leading three shots, with Fowler tallying one on goal.
 
The Chanticleers hit the road for the final time this season as they face No. 18 FIU on Tuesday, Oct 19, in Miami, Florida. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
