Men's Soccer Falls to No. 17 FIU Tuesday Night

Box Score MIAMI, FLA. – The Coastal Carolina Men's soccer team battled but fell to the No. 17 nationally-ranked FIU Panthers 2-1 Tuesday night at the FIU Soccer Stadium.

With the loss, the Chanticleers fall to 3-4-4 overall and suffer just their first Conference USA loss of the season (2-1-4), while the Panthers improve to 9-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in C-USA play with the victory.

"I thought our guys competed very hard tonight against a very good FIU team," head coach Shaun Docking said. "We just faded at the end and I'm disappointed that we couldn't hold on to win in the last six minutes. Credit to FIU, they are a very good attacking team."

In a match that saw 31 total shots, Marcelo Lage tallied his goal of the season as he connected on a pass from fellow Chanticleer Marcello Jones in the 36th minute to give CCU a 1-0 lead on the road. No. 17 FIU looked to equalize before the half but we were unable to convert.

The Panthers were awarded and converted on a penalty kick in the 84th minute that tied the contest at 1-all before adding their second goal less than two minutes later, taking the 2-1 advantage.

No. 17 FIU ended the night with a 19-12 shooting advantage and an 11-3 edge on corner kicks. Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual recorded a game-leading four shots (two on goal), while Emile Rzepecki added two shots (one on goal). Leon Schmidt recorded a career-high six saves against the Panthers.

Notably, the Tuesday contest saw seven total yellow cards between the two teams.

The Chanticleers return to the CCU Soccer Stadium for the final three matches of the regular season as they welcome UAB to Conway on Oct. 26.
