GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's cross country teams finished in fourth and sixth place, respectively, at the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina University on Friday afternoon.
CCU's women's team tallied 141 points and finished in sixth place out of the 12 teams competing. Host ECU finished first, garnering 24 points, while UNCG, American, South Carolina, and UNCW rounded out the top five spots.
Sophomore Meagan Moreno led the Chants with a ninth-place finish running the 6k event in 22:23.46, while junior Ashley Rulison placed 26th overall after navigating the course in 23:51.16.
Coastal's freshmen Amilia Wise-Sweat (34th), Jessica Martin (56th), and Mia Sheldon (60th) followed with times of 24:17.85, 26:35.62, and 26:43.21, respectively.
On the men's side, freshman Garrett Bivens paced the Chanticleers to a fourth-place team finish with 114 points. UNCG tallied 30 points to claim the top spot while the host Pirates finished in second and American followed for the third spot. CCU finished ahead of Methodist to round out the top five teams.
Bivens finished in 12th place, completing the 8k run with a time of 25:29.51, and finished as the top Chanticleer runner for the fourth straight meet.
Junior Monroe Thompkins followed with a 17th place finish and a time of25:59.98, while true freshmen Michael Welsh Jr. (27:31.43), Cory Fleeman (27:58.76), Gage Nielsen (28:36.30), and Kaden Buchler (29:30.24) completed the meet in 35th, 37th, 43rd, and 55th, respectively.
The Coastal Carolina cross country teams will return to action on Friday, Oct. 29 in the Sun Belt Championships held in Foley, Ala.
