STATESBORO, GA – The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team earned its second consecutive Sun Belt victory in convincing fashion by a score of 4-1 on Friday night at Georgia Southern, headlined by Megan Brouse's first career hat trick.
With the win, the Chanticleers improve to 5-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play, while the Eagles drop to 9-5-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the conference with the loss. Notably, Friday's match marked the 200th win for the Chanticleer women's soccer program.
"I am very happy with tonight's performance," head coach Paul Hogan said. "I thought the team played very hard, very focused, and capitalized on our chances. We had a number of players step up and give great performances."
Brouse's hat trick marked the first three-goal performance by a Chanticleer in a single game since Montana Hill on October 7, 2016, against ULM and just the 11th in program history.
"Megan was great tonight," Hogan said. "She made some great runs and got into good spaces in front of goal and finished her chances. I thought she was brilliant."
Brouse kick-started the offense for the Chants as the junior connected on a pass from Taylor Tolson just two minutes into the contest putting CCU up 1-0. Just eight minutes later, Loranna Austin played a through ball to Brouse that she sent past Georgia Southern's goalkeeper to double the Chants' lead at 2-0. The Eagles tallied their lone goal of the match in the 12th minute, as Nora Falnes headed in a corner kick from teammate Taylor Regensburger.
Much like the first half, the Chanticleers' offense came out strong following the break. Brouse tallied her third goal of the night just seven minutes into the second half, increasing the Chanticleers' lead to 3-1. Jordyn Smith tallied CCU's final goal in the 88th minute as she collected a pass from Rose Behrmann and found the open goal.
Georgia Southern finished the match with 14 shots, while CCU posted just nine. Brouse recorded a team-leading three shots (three on goal) for the Chanticleers. Coastal found the advantage in shots on goal, tallying seven to the hosts five. The Eagles also found the advantage in corner kicks 10-0.
Coach Hogan on the 200th program win:
"I am a proud coach and caretaker of this program. We have had great women in this program…. some that I have coached & some before my time who all contributed to these wins. 200 wins is an accomplishment for all the players past and present. I am very proud to have been part of some of these wins. Chants Up!!!!"
Coastal Carolina remains on the road and prepares to face Troy on Sunday. The kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET from Troy, Ala.
