Chanticleers Blank Red Wolves Sunday Afternoon

Box Score CONWAY, S.C. – On the final day of the 2021 regular season, the Coastal Carolina Women's soccer team handed the visiting Arkansas State Red Wolves a 1-0 defeat at the CCU Soccer Stadium Sunday afternoon.

With the win, The Chanticleers snapped a two-game losing streak and finished the regular season with a 6-8-2 overall record and a 4-5-1 mark in the Sun Belt. Arkansas State clinched the regular-season title on Friday night, but with the loss, the Red Wolves drop to 10-5-2 overall and 7-2-1 in conference play.

"I think I was most proud of how we responded to Friday's [gut wrenching] loss," head coach Paul Hogan said. "I'm proud of the effort. The kids did really well today and we were able to get some kids back in the lineup that haven't been in, in a while."

Megan Brouse tallied the lone goal of the contest in the 25th minute as she connected on a pass from Carleigh Frilles that the junior fired into the top left corner of the net to record her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

A-State looked to find the equalizer in the 84th minute as Emma Riley found the back of the net, but the Red Wolves were called offsides.

Ky Hudson recorded five saves for the Chanticleers in goal while also tallying her second shutout of the season and the 10th clean sheet of her career.

The Red Wolves finished the match posting a 10-7 advantage in shots, while the hosts notched a 6-5 shots on frame edge. Brouse and Kamryn Nobles each recorded a game-leading three shots, while Brouse had three on frame, Nobles finished the afternoon with two. Coastal also posted an 8-3 edge in corner kicks while both goalkeepers made five saves.

Coastal Carolina now gets set for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament that begins on Nov. 1 in Foley, Ala. The full bracket will be released later Sunday.
