Men's Soccer Battles, Falls to No. 21 Clemson

CONWAY, S.C. – In front of a record-setting crowd, the Coastal Carolina men's soccer team battled No. 21 nationally-ranked Clemson but fell 2-0 on Tuesday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

With the loss, the Chanticleers fall to 2-3-4 overall but remain unbeaten in C-USA play at 1-0-4. The Tigers improve to 9-2-0 overall and sit at 3-1-0 in the ACC with the win.

"I thought we played a lot better tonight," head coach Shaun Docking said. "I thought we went toe to toe with a very good Clemson team. A bit unlucky not to get at least one goal tonight, then it couldve been a very different game."

Clemson's Hamady Diop gave the visitors an early lead in the 13th minute as he connected on a loose ball at the top of the box which he sent past CCU's goalkeeper Joey Batrouni to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. CCU looked to even the score just before the break only to have both of its two shot attempts stopped by the Tigers goalkeeper.

Much like the first half, Clemson struck early – this time just 11 minutes into the second half as Ousmane Sylla fired a shot off his right foot into the top right corner of the net increasing the Tigers' lead to 2-0. The Chanticleers looked to answer in the second half as back-to-back shots from Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual and Michael Fowler were both saved.

Both teams ended the night with tallying 13 total shots, while Coastal found the 9-5 advantage in shots on frame. Garcia-Pasqual recorded a game-high five shots, with all five being on goal for the Chanticleers. Clemson held the advantage in total saves, 9-3, and also in corner kicks with a final tally of 8-7. Notably, Tuesday's match saw six yellow cards – three to each program.

The Chanticleers end their four-game homestand as they return to C-USA play and play host to Charlotte on Oct. 12. The Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET from the CCU Soccer Stadium.
