(RV) Coastal to Host In-State Foe Wofford on Saturday

Coastal Carolina women’s basketball is receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will host in-state foe Wofford as part of a doubleheader with the men's team on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. The opening tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET
 
The Chanticleers are off to a 6-0 start for the first time since the 2007-08 season and received a vote in USA Today Coaches Poll. A win over Wofford would equal the Chants' best start in program history at 7-0. The Terriers enter play at 2-5 on the year while coming off a 74-52 victory over High Point last Tuesday.
 
COASTAL vs. WOFFORD HISTORY
 
Coastal and Wofford have met a total of 12 times entering Saturday's meeting with the Chants holding an 11-1 advantage in the overall series. CCU opened the series by winning the first nine contests before dropping its only game in the series on the road in December of 2016. In the 11 wins, Coastal has won by an average of 9.9 points per contest, with one being the closest margin in the CCU victories. On the other side of the court, the Terriers picked up a 67-62 home win as their lone victory.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
Senior forward Aja Blount recorded her second double-double of the season on the way to being named the Sun Belt Player of the Week for her performances against UNCG and ETSU last week. On the season, Blount is leading the Chants in scoring (19.2 points per game), rebounds (9.3 rebounds per game), and steals (11). Classmate Tyra Brown is second in scoring with 11.5 points per game with junior Blayre Shultz following in third with 9.2 points per contest. As a team, the Chants are putting up an average of 75.5 points per game and shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from behind the arc.
 
On the defensive end of the floor, Blount leads the team in defensive rebounds by grabbing 6.3 defensive rebounds per contest while teammate Janeen Camp has blocked 15 shots over the first six games. As a team, CCU is allowing just 41.7 points per game while holding opponents to a 28.2 shooting percent.
 
ABOUT WOFFORD
 
Wofford is averaging 63.4 points per game while shooting 36.5 from the floor and 30.8 from three-point range. The Terriers are led by Lilly Hatton (9.6 points per game) and Alexis Tomlin (9.4 points per game) while Helen Matthews and Reagan Rapert each have 16 assists.
 
Defensively for the Terriers, Tomlin leads the team by grabbing 8.4 rebounds per game while Rapert has a team-high 10 steals. As a team, Wofford is allowing their opponents to shoot 40.1 from the field and 30.8 from long range.
