Chanticleers Head South to Compete at the Florida Gators Invite

Coastal Carolina is coming off a team win at the AGT Intercollegiate
CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team will return to action this weekend at the highly-touted Florida Gators Invitational hosted by the University of Florida at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
The annual event will take place on Feb. 12-14 and will play par-70, 6,701 yards. The three days of play will consist of 18 holes each day and is slated to begin at 7:30 a.m. ET.
The tournament field this year includes 21 teams in No. 9 Alabama, No. 6 Arkansas, No. 8 Auburn, No. 35 Coastal Carolina, No. 15 Florida, No. 3 Georgia, No. 11 Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Liberty, No. 16 LSU, No. 21 Mississippi State, No. 34 Missouri, North Florida, Penn State, No. 12 South Carolina, South Florida, No. 4 Tennessee, UCF, No. 1 Vanderbilt, West Virginia, and Washington (rankings based on latest Golfstat rankings).
"We are excited to get back out and compete this weekend. It's an honor for our program to be invited to such an awesome event and we are looking forward to the challenge this week holds," commented head coach Jim Garren. "There are going to be some really good teams there and I think this should give us an idea of where we stand against some of the best programs in the country."
The Chanticleers will again send out a familiar lineup this weekend in Zack Taylor, States Fort, Seth Taylor, Connor Newton, and Tyler Gray.
Zack Taylor opened up his spring season with a 54-hole score of 212, 4-under, at the AGT Intercollegiate, good enough to place 11th overall. Over his three rounds of play, he posted scores of 67, 71, and 74.
Fort is coming off his first-ever intercollegiate win, as he ran away with the individual title at the AGT Intercollegiate with a final score of 205, 11-under par. Fort, who sat out the fall season, carded back-to-back rounds of 70 before shooting a career-low round 65 over the final day of play.
Seth Taylor is coming off his best tournament of the season in which he placed sixth overall with a 54-hole score of 210, 6-under par. The second-year Chant carded two rounds in the 60's with a 68 and 69 over the final two rounds of play in the spring opener in January.
Like his fellow teammates, Newton started his spring season off on the right track, shooting a career-low round 68 over the final round of play to finish in a tie for 12th overall at the AGT Intercollegiate. His 54-hole score of 213, 3-under par, was also a career-low 54-hole score for the junior, knocking seven strokes off his previous CCU tournament-low score of 220.
Gray, who posted an individual win in the fall season at the Intercollegiate at The Grove event on Oct. 12-13, is coming off his third top-15 finish of the season with a 14th-place showing at the AGT Intercollegiate. He carded rounds of 73, 66, and 75 for his three rounds of play in the spring-opening event.
The Chants will tee-off on day one of the event on Friday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 a.m. ET, weather permitting. CCU will start on hole No. 10 and play with Missouri and Penn State.
