CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team is set to return to the court and end a 10-day layoff as the Chants travel to Atlanta, Ga., to face Georgia State at 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
The Sun Belt Conference match-up will be the third between the two programs this season. The Panthers defeated Coastal 73-55 and 76-65 back on Jan. 15-16 at the HTC Center in Conway, S.C. In the opening game of that series, the Chants played Georgia State to a two-point game except for a 22-5 second quarter that proved to be enough for the Panthers. Coastal then held an eight-point advantage in game two entering the fourth quarter but was outscored 26-7 in the final quarter to take the loss.
Coastal (3-11, 0-10 SBC) enters Tuesday's game in search of their first conference victory in its first game since a 79-65 loss at Appalachian State on Feb. 13. The current 10-game losing streak against conference teams is the longest for Coastal since joining the Sun Belt prior to the start of the 2016-17 season and the longest for the program since an 11-game losing streak to open the 1989-90 season.
Deaja Richardson is coming off of a career-high 27-point game in that contest at Appalachian State. Richardson, who was 8-of-19 from the field including knocking down three three-point baskets, drew nine fouls against the Mountaineers and connected on 8-of-10 attempts from the free throw line. The sophomore guard, who is averaging 11.9 points per game on the season, has averaged 15.8 points per game over the Chants' last four games.
Junior forward
Aja Blount, a preseason All-Sun Belt selection, ranks second in the Sun Belt with 15.4 points per game and ninth in the conference at 7.4 rebounds per game. Blount also leads the conference and ranks 25th nationally with an 87.9 free throw percentage (51-of-58).
Georgia State (10-10, 6-7 SBC) is led in scoring and rebounding by Taylor Hosendove at 12.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. The 6-1 junior forward has recorded 15 career double-doubles, including seven this season, and is coming off of a 15-points, 16-rebounds effort in a road loss at Troy.
The midday tipoff will be broadcast live on ESPN+, the Chanticleers Sports Network at 105.5 Hank FM, and online at www.GoCCUsports.com.
