FULL CIRCLE
  • Though both teams have played this past weekend, Coastal Carolina and South Carolina played the final game of the 2020 season versus each other.
  • South Carolina would defeat the Chanticleers by the score of 10-2 (5 innings) last season at St. John Stadium, where they ran away from CCU. The Gamecocks scored six runs in the third inning with home runs by Kassidy Krupit and Jana Johns.

MIDWEEK SOFTBALL
  • Wednesday's road contest is the first time the Chanticleers have been on the road since May of 2019 when they played in the Sun Belt Championship game in San Marcos, Texas. Last season, Coastal Carolina was the only Division I softball team to play all of their games in their own ballpark.
  • This season, Coastal will find themselves traveling for all five of their midweek contests this season.

HUNGRY CHANTS
  • Coastal enters the midweek affair at 2-2 overall, having dropped games against Saint Francis and East Carolina at last weekend's Battle at the Beach tournament.
  • On Saturday, CCU would win in dominant fashion over the Buffalo Bulls by the score of 6-0, but struggled and eventually fell in the next game versus Saint Francis in an 8-run rule mercy game. The following day was a mirror of Friday. CCU knocked off the ECU Pirates in convincing fashion by the score of 11-3, but East Carolina turned the tables and knocked off Coastal in six innings, 9-1.

SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS
  • The Gamecocks come into the game as the No. 18-ranked team in the latest USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll.
  • In its first competition of the season, South Carolina softball won two-of-three in the last weekend's University of North Florida Tournament. The Carolina softball team split two with Auburn and added a victory over the University of Jacksonville.
  • The Gamecocks return four Covid seniors from last season's team that defeated the Chanticleers in Conway; Lauren Stewart (.315, H.R., 10 RBI), Kenzi Maguire (.328, 2 H.R., 9 RBI), Mackenzie Boesel (.317, 2 H.R., 11 RBI), Cayla Drotar (1-1, 3.26 ERA)

TERRIFIC THREESOME
  • Between Kayla Rosado, Courtney Dean, and Makiya Thomas, the trio has hit .432 through the first four games, blasted five home runs,
  • and knocked in 13 RBI.
  • So far in 2021, Dean has gone 4-for-12, with home runs and tallied seven RBI.
  • Dean's two home runs in Sunday's game one 11-3 win over East Carolina moved her past Sherry Johnson (1995) for sixth on the school's all-time home run list with 32.
  • Rosado has hit safely in her 3-of-4 games thus far in 2021 while hitting .500, a homer, forcing four walks, and knocked in three RBI.
  • Thomas has successfully hit in each of the four games in 2021. This season the Tacoma, Wash., native has batted .462 (6-of-13), hit a home run, roped two doubles, and knocked in three runs.

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • South Carolina holds a 50-9 advantage in the all-time series, dating back to 1989.
  • The Gamecocks and the Chanticleers have played at least once per year since the series started but in 2015 and 2018.
  • USC's 28-game winning streak from 1989 to 2000 is the longest in the series.
  • The Chants' longest win streak in the series occurred from 2005-06. (3 games)
  • Coastal's largest victory of three runs happened in 2012 when they won 5-2.
  • The smallest margin of victory happened in their last win versus South Carolina on April 11, 2017, by the score of 3-2.
  • The Chanticleers are 3-26 lifetime at Carolina Softball Stadium in Columbia.
