No. 18 South Carolina Takes Two From CCU

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (2-4) and No. 18 South Carolina (4-1) renewed their intrastate rivalry on Wednesday at Carolina Softball Stadium as it saw the Gamecocks take both games on the afternoon.

USC 8, CCU 0 (6 inn.)
The Gamecocks kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the third inning as Carlie Henderson led off with a triple into left-center field. After Chanticleer starter Kaitlin Beasley-Polko struck out Aaliyah White, the righty allowed a walk to Mackenzie Boesel. On the next pitch, the Gamecocks put on the double steal that allowed Henderson to score and give her team a 1-0 lead. South Carolina would add another run in the inning when Beasley-Polko uncorked a wild pitch that scored Boesel.

In the bottom of the third, South Carolina stretched its lead to 5-0, as White, Kenzi Maguire, and Boesel powered the Gamecocks with a pair of triples and a sacrifice fly.

South Carolina put the game away in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored three runs on back-to-back doubles by White and Henderson and a RBI single from Maguire.

Leah Powell (1-0) picked up a one-hit, complete-game victory as she went the distance for USC.

Amber White, Henderson, Maguire, and Boesel led the Gamecocks with two hits apiece. Maguire led the Gamecock squad with two RBI in the 8-0 win.

Chanticleer graduate student Kayla Rosado added a double, her second of the season, to lead the Chants at the dish in game one.

Beasley-Polko (2-1) takes the loss in game one as she pitched four innings and allowed five runs on five hits.

USC 10, CCU 0 (5 inn.)
In game two, the Gamecocks scored three runs off of CCU starter Iyanla De Jesus in the bottom of the first inning with runs batted in from Mackenzie Boesel, K. Prebble, Maddie Gallagher to take a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second frame, South Carolina extended the lead to 9-0 when the foursome of Kenzie Maguire, Kassidy Krupit, Jordan Fabian, and Gallagher all had at least one RBI apiece in the rally.

USC added its final run of the game in the third inning on Boesel's second RBI hit of the game.

Rachael Vaughan (1-0) picked up her first win of the season as she tossed a two-hit complete game for the Gamecocks.

Jordan Fabian led South Carolina in game two with a homer and three RBI. 

Senior Makiya Thomas led the Chanticleers at the plate in game two with a double, her third of the season, while Kayla Rosado added single.

CCU freshman Jordan Thompson came off the bench to pick up her career hit in the fifth inning.

In the first start of her collegiate career, De Jesus (0-2) took the loss for CCU. The right-hander pitched one inning and allowed seven runs on three hits.

The Chanticleers will be back in action this weekend part of the Chanticleer Showdown, when they face Lipscomb University in a four-game series. Game one is set for Friday at 3 p.m. ET. On Saturday, a double-header is scheduled for 1 / 3:30 p.m ET. The finale will take place on Sunday at 11 a.m. ET.
