CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will wrap-up the regular season this weekend when the Chanticleers host Troy in a two-game Sun Belt Conference series. The first game will tip-off at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 26, with the second game tipping off at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The series will match the Sun Belt Conference's East Division leader Troy (17-5, 13-2 SBC) against the East Division's sixth-place Chanticleers (3-12, 0-11 SBC). The teams met earlier this season in Troy, Ala., where the Trojans won 104-59 and 84-53 on their home court back on Jan. 22-23.
Coastal is led by junior
Aja Blount as she looks to post her fourth consecutive game of double-digit points and rebounds. Blount, a preseason All-Sun Belt selection, has recorded double-doubles of 30 points and 11 rebounds against Appalachian State (Feb. 10), 17 points and 12 rebounds at Appalachian State (Feb. 13), and 17 points and a career-high 19 rebounds at Georgia State this past Tuesday (Feb. 23).
Blount has not just had a great four-game run as she continues to post one of the top statistical seasons of all players in the Sun Belt. She ranks second in the conference in scoring with 15.5 points per game, first in free throw percentage at 87.1 percent, seventh in rebounding at 8.1 rebounds per game, second in field goal percentage at 46.7 percent, and 10th in minutes played at 31.8 minutes per game.
Sophomore guard
Deaja Richardson has seen her production increase as the season has progressed. Richardson, who averages 11.9 points per game on the season, is averaging 15.8 points per game over the Chants' last four games and scored a career-high 27 points at Appalachian State (Feb. 13).
The Chanticleers will be facing the third highest-scoring team in the nation as Troy averages 85.7 points per game. Leading the Trojans is senior forward Alexus Dye as she averages 15.0 points and a Sun Belt Conference-leading 12.3 rebounds per game. Dye is just one of six players on Troy's roster that averages double figures in scoring.
