Women's Golf Heads to Augusta for Valspar Invitational

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team will travel to Augusta to play in the Valspar Augusta Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club Saturday-Sunday, March 13-14.
Augusta University will play host to the invitational as 16 teams will face off on the par-72, 6,249-yard layout. The two-day event will feature 36 holes of play on Saturday and a final 18 holes Sunday with shotgun starts on both days. Saturday's play will begin at 8:00 a.m. ET and Sunday the action will begin at 9 a.m. ET.
The event will feature several of the top teams in the nation with five of those ranked among the top seven teams in the latest Golfstat rankings. Two other teams are ranked among the top-25 while all of the teams are ranked among the top 99 ranked teams.
The No. 1 team in the nation, Wake Forest, leads the list of participants in the highly-competitive invitational. Also making an appearance will be No. 2 Duke, No. 3 South Carolina, No. 5 Florida State, and No. 7 Virginia. The other top-25 ranked teams visiting Augusta are No. 17 Kent State and No. 24 Louisville.
Rounding out the talented field along with CCU (No. 76) and host Augusta (No. 97) are Furman (No. 46), Kennesaw State (No. 59), Memphis (No. 86), Notre Dame (No. 99), Purdue (No. 43), South Florida (No. 51), and Virginia Tech (No. 26).
The Chants will be looking to build on last week's impressive record-setting performance at the River Landing Classic where the team broke four team and individual records.
Freshman Nicole Abelar has only played in four events as a Chanticleer, but has already made an immediate impact on the program. She has two second-place finishes among those four starts and last week set a scoring-record with her 11-under performance at the River Landing Classic. She enters the weekend with a team-best 72.7 scoring average.
Along with Abelar, other Chants playing in the event are Sophia Carlsen, Tiffany Arafi, Caitlin Evans-Brand, and Frantiska Lunackova.
