Coastal Carolina’s Viktor Olund shot a 67 in his CCU debut

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – A total of five Chanticleers shot par or better on day one of the V1 Sports General Hackler Championship on Sunday, including three players in the Coastal Carolina lineup, as Coastal ended the day in a three-way tie for fifth place on the team leaderboard with Indiana and No. 28 North Florida at 284, 4-under par.

Making his debut as a Chanticleer and playing as an individual, Viktor Olund shot a round of 67, 5-under par, to place in a tie for fourth-place overall and just one shot off the lead after 18 holes of play. The transfer opened the day with eight pars and an eagle on the back nine, shooting a 34, 2-under par, and then had an up-and-down round on the front nine that saw an eagle, three birdies, three pars, and two bogeys over the nine holes of play.

Fifth-year senior States Fort paced the CCU lineup on Sunday with a first-round 69, 3-under par. The Coastal veteran golfer carded five birdies, four on the front nine, and 11 pars on the day to finish the day in a tie for 11th overall.

One shot back of Fort is fellow Chant Seth Taylor with an opening-round 70, 2-under par. The sophomore posted back-to-back nine-hole scores of 35, 1-under par, which included two birdies and one bogey on both the front and back nine to place in a tie for 16th overall.

Also shooting under par for the Coastal lineup was defending individual champion Zack Taylor with a round of 71, 1-under par. Despite shooting a double-bogey on the par-5, hole No. 4, the third-year Chant registered four birdies and 12 pars overall to end the day in a tie for 23rd place.

Rounding out the lineup for the Chants on day one of play were juniors Brady Hinkle and Connor Newton. Hinkle turned in two birdies, four bogeys, and 12 pars for an opening-round 74, +2, to place in 57th overall, while Newton posted two birdies on the back nine over his round of 77, +5, good enough to put him in a tie for 82nd overall.

Also playing as individuals like Olund is Tyler Gray, Jorgen Viken, Holden Grigg, Garrett Cooper, and Gavin Noble.

Gray will enter the second round of play on Monday in a tie for 34th overall after a first-round 72, even par, while Viken, Grigg, and Cooper are all tied in a log jam at 57th place at 74, +2. Noble carded a first-round 76, +4, on Sunday to place in a tie for 77th.

No. 47 Louisville leads the tournament field at 275, 13-under par, and is two strokes in front of No. 8 North Carolina who is in second at 277, 11-under par.

Kent State (278, -10) is in third after day one of play, while No. 32 NC State (279, -9) is in fourth place overall.

Spectators are allowed. The course will be using a credential system so fans must report to spectator check-in upon arrival to the course.

General spectators will have access to the Waterloo Grill portion of the clubhouse, the far left side if you are standing on the putting green.

A general spectator will not be permitted in any other areas of the clubhouse, aside from the Golf Shop and Waterloo Grill area.

Spectators must remain six feet away from players and coaches at all times.

Proper social distancing protocols will be enforced and signage will be present to direct all spectators.
