CONWAY, S.C. – The No. 19 nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina University men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Lipscomb at the CCU Soccer Complex Saturday afternoon.
While the team's offenses supplied plenty of action combining for 27 shots on the pitch, it was both team's goalkeepers that were the real stars in the contest.
Both goalies faced six shots in goal and had five saves during the Saturday afternoon matinee, including two saves by each by intermission.
CCU (7-2-2) had a fast start to the match with three shots in the first five minutes, as
Claudio Repetto and
Kazuki Kimura teamed up in sixth minute to put the Chants in front at 1-0. It was Repetto's third goal of the season and Kimura's second assist.
Lipscomb (5-3-1) would tie the match at 1-1 when Noah Gulden scored in the 12th minute on an assist from William Turner to take the 1-0 lead.
The defense and keepers would take over the match from there, as neither team would score for the remainder of the contest.
Lipscomb finished the match with 15 shots with Gulden leading with four shots and two on goal. Alejandro Lopez had three shots with two of those on goal.
For CCU, Repetto,
Emile Rzepecki, and
Ethan Hackenburg all contributed with three shots each. Two of Hackenburg's shots were on goal while Repetto and Rzepecki each had one on goal.
The Chants will host nationally-ranked UNC Wilmington Saturday, April 3 at 6 p.m. ET.
