No. 24 Men's Soccer Defeats Villanova

Box Score RICHMOND, Va. – The 24th-nationally ranked Coastal Carolina men's soccer team got a late goal in defeating Villanova 1-0 in a tight battle between the two teams Saturday afternoon on a neutral field in Richmond, Va.

While the Chanticleers (8-2-2) held a 12-3 lead in shots taken, it was not until the 74th minute of the match when Connor Pugh scored on an assist from Emile Rzepecki to provide the only goal the Chants would need to record the win.

It was Pugh's second goal of the season and his career. The goal was also his first career game-winner. It was Rzepecki's second assist of the season and third of his career.

The Chants offense played well after a slow start and had several chances to score more goals, but Villanova's goalkeeper Kent Dickey made four saves in goal to keep the Wildcats close.

CCU's defense was outstanding throughout the match and limited the Wildcats (1-8-0) to only three shots, one of which was on goal.

Tor Saunders made an early save to keep the score even at zero in the first 15 minutes. He did pick up the win in shutout fashion with his sixth of the season.

The Chants are scheduled to be back on the pitch Saturday, April 3, when they host No. 12 UNCW at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
