PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will open play in the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Tournament against Little Rock on Friday, March 5, at 2:30 p.m. ET at the Pensacola Bay Center.
The Chanticleers, the No. 6 seed out of the East Division, will enter the tournament with a 3-14 overall record and a 0-13 conference record. Little Rock enters the tournament with a record of 13-10 overall and a 9-7 mark in the Sun Belt and is the No. 3 seed out of the West Division.
This will be the first meeting between the two programs this season as the Sun Belt Conference regular-season schedule only matched teams from within their respective divisions for the 2020-21 season. Coastal, which will be playing Little Rock for the first time in the conference tournament, trails 5-1 in the all-time series with the Trojans.
Coastal is led by preseason All-Sun Belt selection
Aja Blount, the conference's leading scorer at 16.4 points per game entering the tournament. In the nine games leading into the SBC tourney, Blount has increased her output by averaging 19.6 points per game during that span. She also ranks sixth in the league with 8.3 rebounds per game.
Joining Blount in leading the Chants in scoring is sophomore guard
Deaja Richardson, who ranks fifth in the Sun Belt with 13.7 points per game. She too has raised her game as the regular season drew to a close by averaging 21.5 points over the last four games, including a pair of career-high 27-point games.
Little Rock enters the postseason as the second-stingiest defense in the Sun Belt by allowing just 56.1 points per game. On the offensive side of the ball, Teal Battle leads the Trojans with 13.1 points per game while Krystan Vornes averages 10.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
