Coastal Drops Match to 49ers on Senior Day

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team fell at home to Charlotte 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in Conway, S.C.

Prior to the start of the match, the Chanticleers recognized seniors Somer Dalla-Bona, Jessie Mount, and Kristyna Jurkova as part of the Senior Day festivities.

With the loss, CCU falls to 13-6 overall, while Charlotte moves to 19-6 on the season with the win.

Charlotte took a 1-0 lead with the 49ers' duo of Rocio Safon and Emma Wilkins defeating Valentina Urelli and Jurkova on court three 6-3. The Chanticleer senior duo of Mount and Dalla-Bona would defeat the Charlotte team of Ruxi Schech and Kaavya Sawhney 7-6 on court one. Charlotte would secure the doubles point with a 7-6 win on court two by edging the home pair of Jesse Hollins and Victoire De Samucewicz 7-6.

Coastal would tie the match at 1-1 as an injury forced the visitors to retire at the No. 3 spot.

Charlotte then posted a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set win at No. 5 singles to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

At the No. 2 position, the visitors picked up a straight-set 7-5, 6-0 win to make the match 3-1

Charlotte would clinch the match with a win at No. 6 as Wilkins defeated Mount 6-2, 7-6 to make the final score 4-1.

The Chanticleers will return to action at the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Tournament this weekend.
